Ringing in the New Year with Resilience and Growth

Hello, 2024!

As the founder of ELLEvate LLC. Inclusive Workplace and Leadership Solutions, I'm excited to share with you, through our first blog post of the year, my journey of resilience, growth, and unwavering belief in the power of inclusive leadership.

2023. Was. A. Year!

Early on, I hit a wall. I struggled with burnout, I wasn't excited about my work, I was unfairly frustrated with my colleagues (sorry ya'll), and I was cynical and frustrated. Recognizing that I wasn't my usual self, I knew I needed to prioritize making some changes.

Excited for a fresh start, I transitioned to a new work environment. Three months in– I faced my first career layoff. The subsequent months were a rollercoaster, marked by a job search that tested my confidence and mental health.

A New Approach on Social Media

During this time, I made a small but significant shift. I began sharing my experiences more transparently on LinkedIn. This wasn't just about networking; it was a journey toward authenticity. As I opened up about my challenges and triumphs, I noticed the pressure to mask diminished, and I grew more comfortable with the version of me that showed up in professional spaces.

Masking at work is common for women, even more so for women of color, and all the more for neurodivergent folks. I was hit with a triple whammy! I have always held a strong value for authenticity, but I also realized that I’ve leaned heavily on established relationships and people knowing my value, trusting my work, and recognizing my strengths before I feel safe enough to show up as my full self. It has taken a conscious effort for me to show up as the truest version of myself and not just the version I think that people want to see.

The Leap into Entrepreneurship

Amidst the chaos, ELLEvate LLC was born. Venturing into entrepreneurship was a leap of faith, a step I hadn't imagined taking for years to come. Yet, here I am, feeling incredibly proud and confident in my ability to navigate this new path. I am pumped about the early projects and clients we have lined up for the first quarter and excited about the partnerships we’ve already built. ELLEvate is a manifestation of my belief in inclusive leadership and workplaces where everyone can thrive.

A Moment of Reflection

On New Year's Eve, a quote caught my eye, unfortunately, I can’t credit the writer.

"The version of you that carried you through this year, somehow, thank her with gratitude before you tell her what she can do better in 2024."

I’m holding on to those words as a reminder to be kind to myself. To appreciate my resilience and strength, even as I strive for improvement.

Appreciation

I survived 2023 because of an incredible support system. To my family, especially Dana and Noa, thank you for your unconditional love and constant patience with me.

To my friends, your unwavering encouragement and empathy have been steadfast anchors.

And to my professional network, your generosity and belief in me have been overwhelming.

To Myself, With Gratitude

LaVonne – thank you for not giving up, and for your resilience, intelligence, and relentless pursuit of your dreams. You are a badass and this journey is a testament to the power of perseverance.

Looking Forward

The future is bright with possibilities! ELLEvate LLC is not just a business; it's a commitment to fostering workplaces that truly enable women, Black folx, Brown folx, queer people, disabled people, and those of us who have traditionally been left behind to thrive.

It's about being productive, enjoying the work we do, and building relationships with our colleagues, bosses, and clients. It's about making the kind of money that allows us to provide for our families without a second thought; building wealth that enables us to take care of our physical and mental health, go on vacations, and buy things for our kids. It's about having the flexibility to support our family members as they get older and care for loved ones as they get sick.

We deserve that.

Part of achieving this requires us being in workplaces that nurture leadership valuing diversity and authenticity.

What affirmations are guiding you this year? How do you plan to embrace resilience and growth? There's no time like the present to reflect and plan. After all, a dream [or goal] without a plan is just a wish.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to a remarkable year ahead with ELLEvate LLC – where we rise by lifting others.
